New Wording on Coupons ~ P&G, Pom Wonderful

  • Posted on August 30, 2012 at 9:12 AM

I try and make it a habit to update coupon policies in my binder and to read the “instructions” on coupons so I’m not blindsided at the checkout. I noticed some new wording on the P&G coupons that came out last weekend. BTW P&G coupons are the only ones that have this new wording. If you seen coupons from other companies doing the same, please share.
They used to state: “Limit of 4 like coupons in the same shopping trip“.

They now state: “Limit of 4 like coupons per household per day”,

So basically, if you would like to buy 5 like items (boxes of cereal) and you want to use coupons, you can only buy 4 one day, then come back the next day to buy the 5th one with a coupon. For most of us small time couponers this wording will not matter much.  To those who are extreme couponers and buy 100′s of items in one trip, you will have some major changes!

On the flip-side POM Wonderful. the first to feature the new wording, (“Cannot be used during any in-store promotional offer or discount.”) retracted their changes after outcries from the couponing community. YAY!

POM Wonderful issued us the following statement tonight:

“POM Wonderful has always been as passionate about our customers as we are about our products. We recognize that some customers were disappointed in the limitation attached to one of our recent coupons. After examining this issue, we have changed the wording on future coupons so they will no longer prohibit usage in combination with retailer promotions. We hope customers will take advantage of future coupons and promotional opportunities so they can continue enjoying POM Wonderful.”

Wonderful, indeed. And lesson learned: if you don’t read the fine print on your coupons, maybe you should. And if you don’t like what you read, maybe you should start asking questions. Couponers often know coupons better than the companies that issue them, after all.

P&G, are you listening?
