Beauty Box 5 ~ August 2012

  • Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:14 PM

YAY I got my first Beauty Box 5 today. I only signed up two weeks ago. (I opted for the quarterly plan ~ $30)  If that’s how they’re going to be, this is going to be a beautiful relationship! OH and I’m beyond happy with my box. Take a peek!

Ellis Faas Milky Lips shade L206 ~ The FULL-SIZED bullet shaped pen is impressive. You need patience though. It took A LOT of twisting before my gloss appeared. When it did I tried it out and it was creamy, not sticky and the shade actually looked nice. I never would have chosen it otherwise. I never would have tried this brand either. The glaze retails for $35! (there was a coupon for %15 your order if you so choose to purchase more of this product.)

H2O Plus ~ Marine, botanical-infused eye cream to reduce the look of fine lines. YES I need this product! I will be trying it before work tomorrow night. Retail $32

Ferro Cosmetics ~ Sheer Crystal Veil. This is a powder to “dust” over or under foundation for a dewy soft finish. You can also mix it with moisturizer. Not really my thing, but it looks cute. (Also came with a discount coupon.)

These last two items I know for a fact I will use!

Blum Naturals ~ Make up Remover Towelettes. I got 3.  A 10 pk retails for 3.99

Freeman ~ Anti-Stress Mask x 2. A single one retails for 3.99.

So for my first BB5 I am impressed and excited to try ALL the items from my pretty little blue box.

Influenster ~ Latina Vox Box

  • Posted on August 22, 2012 at 8:32 PM

Almost 2 months ago I signed up with a program called Influenster. From their website:

Apply to our trendsetter community and use your influence to qualify for complimentary PRODUCT SHIPMENTS, REWARDS & DEALS fit for your lifestyle. The more active you are, the more perks you get!

I love snail mail boxes, and I am always doing a survey for someone, so I figured why not. I imagined it would be months until I was chosen for a “VoxBox”, but I wasn’t brooding about it. Most programs ask for 100% participation on several occasions before you are up for perks. To my surprise I was chosen a few weeks ago for a Latina VoxBox. It arrived a few days ago. 🙂

I considered doing a video of my box, but I chickened out. I also just returned from a 2week vacation and I’m beat. So for now I’m just going to show you what goodies I got and in a week or so I’ll review the products either in this same format or *gulp* a video.

My Latina Beauty VoxBox contains the following:

VEET Ready to Use Wax Strips, Leg & Body $9.99 (Scared to death to try this, but I’ll be a trooper!)

NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine. $ 2.49

NEW Bath and Body Works Shea-Enriched Signature Collection Shower Gel. $5

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen. $7.99

Always Radiant Infinity Pads. $6.99 (Already use them and love them!)

Always Tampax Radiant Collection sampler (tampons, pads, liners in a cute wristlet)

Sooo roughly $32.46 worth of products.

I’ll update this post when I try EVERYTHING out. 🙂 BTW Disclosure: The product(s) featured in this post were provided for editorial consideration. Receipt of this product did not guarantee review and all opinions are my own.

Birchbox ~ August 2012

  • Posted on August 22, 2012 at 1:24 AM

So I’m starting to get addicted to this subscription box craze. While I vacation I got my first BirchBox. Prior to signing up I’d read pros and cons of this subscription.  I decided to give it a go anyway and like my other scripts there is a 3 strike rule. This month’s box is meh, but not strike worthy.

There seem to be monthly themes to these boxes. This month is “Beauty School”. I got a little booklet telling me about all of my products, how to use them and what a full-sized product would cost.

From L to R ~ Juicy Couture’s Viva la Juicy La Fleur. Retail $70

A tiny lip gloss from Jouer. TOTALLY not my color. I don’t do pinks. This will go in a prize bag for sure. Retail $20

A Schick Hydro Silk razor with coupons. I love this razor, I currently use it. Retail not listed, but as a couponer I rarely pay more that $2 for razors. 🙂

Apothederm Stretch Mark Cream. I can’t wait to see if this works. Retail value is $89.95!

Last goodie is a sample of SHU UEMURA Art of Hair Illuminating Shampoo & Treatment. Shampoo retails for $48 and the treatment goes for $58

So far I’m excited to actually try all the products with the exception of the gloss. I also feel I got my $10 worth. Would you like a box of your own? Visit www.Birchbox.com

GlossyBox July 2012

  • Posted on August 4, 2012 at 2:53 AM

I’m just a little confused… I got my first GlossyBox TODAY 8/3/12, but it’s for “July”. I’m wondering if I’ll get August in September? As long as I get a box a month I wont complain. If the rest of the boxes are like this one I’ll be overjoyed!

This sounds silly, but I felt special opening this box. It’s very luxe and gave me the feeling of opening an expensive gift. To further my excitement I found the contents wrapped inside dark brown tissue held together with a sticker and a pink ribbon tied around it. Right under the ribbon was a glossy card with a list and explanation of the contents. This GlossyBox has a theme “Summer Nights”.  I was too excited to read the rest. I tossed it aside and dug into my box!

Here is what I found. Oops! I forgot to add that on top of the box was a copy of Glossy Mag. I’ll read it later. 🙂

Pedix Heel Rescue Balm by Alessandro International ~ (Imported from Germany) Even at 1.01 oz the tube is pretty good sized for being a sample. I tried a little on my hand and though it felt soft the smell was horrible. It reminded me of Kaopectate. I’m not big on pepperminty smells. A full size bottle sells for $18.50

OFRA Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow pencil ~ I don’t use brow pencils, but I might give this one a try. Full size (this one is) sells for $10

Almond & Aloe Hand & Body Emulsion by Caswell-Massey ~ I don’t want to tear this open yet, but I’m dying to. I LOVE almond scented anything! This is a tad bit premature, but if it’s anything like other almond creams I’ve tried, I wont hesitate to buy it. The full-sized price of $24 doesn’t scare me. LOL Oh and the fact that it’s paraben-free and not tested on animals… Yup, I’ll probably buy it.

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo & Conditioner ~ Full shampoo is $14.95 and the conditioner is $16.95. Doesn’t smell too bad. I’ll have to see how well it works though. One thing that has me super curious to try it is, the conditioner looks like it has a foam applicator.

Senna Cosmetics Double Dose Lip Lacquer ~ Chocolate Cherry ~ YUM Will try this before work tomorrow. I’m glad it’s full-sized, the color is something I’d wear. We’ll see how well it looks on me though. Sells for $22.00

Loving my box and I feel it’s worth the $21. Can’t wait to see what August brings!

Sample Box Showdown ~ Pets

  • Posted on July 23, 2012 at 8:40 AM

Yesterday I told you about beauty sample boxes, also known as subscription boxes. I could have rambled on and on, but I had to cut off somewhere. 🙂 In my new quest for the best sample/subscription boxes (I will eventually try them all.) I found some devoted to pets. So far there are only three…

BarkBox (I hope they come up with a cat version!)

$17 /6 mo, $21/3 mo or $29/mo. Free shipping. ~  Choose your dog’s size so they can customize it. Every month you will receive a box in the mail with four or more selected products and presents for your dog ~ anything from bones and treats to shampoos, leashes and innovative new gadgets! Also  included is a write-up on all of the products including the website address of each product, and in many cases, promotional codes for discounts. Cancel anytime. A portion of proceeds from each box will go to help doggies-in-need.

Pawalla $26/mo or $21/annually. Free shipping. ~ Fill out a pet profile so their pet nutritionist can  select the foods, treats, and supplements that are best for your pet. Each box contains six or more great new products including premium all-natural wet foods, delicious treats, healthy supplements, quality essentials and toys. Cancel anytime.

Best Friend Box  $45/mo. Free shipping. ~ Every month you get  four or more items. Their selections generally fall in the following categories: gourmet natural treats, posh toys, premium grooming supplies, and high-quality gear. You also get a card with information about each product, it’s manufacturer, and where to buy it. 10% of all profits are donated to cats and dogs in need.

These boxes are a bit *choke* more pricey than the beauty boxes. The only reason I’m considering subscribing to one is because I have five, yes FIVE, cats. They are spoiled! Treats & toys for them is expensive, let alone food and litter.

Would you fork out money for a pet box? Do you know of any other companies? If so, please comment and share with us.
